Shelita Burke is a Seattle native and she blends the western and middle eastern scales together to create an innovative jazz folk sound. Shelita uses her voice as an instrument. She finds pitches in everything that her ear is being exposed to: like the Paris metro station or the Seattle ferry dock. To use these sounds with her voice is as natural to her as note matching with a guitar. Her lyrics are heartfelt and drawn from her own life experiences: encompassing an almost spiritual intensity that stems from her own mix of Native American, African, and European roots.
